About us

Newsome High School is an 11 to 16 comprehensive school set in fabulous countryside in south Huddersfield. We have around 600 pupils on roll and over 60 amazing teaching and support staff. We are very unique in the fact that we also have two specialist provisions – Hearing Impaired and Physically Impaired. These provisions allow students to be in mainstream lessons which enriches our educational offer beyond belief. In addition to our provisions, we benefit from our small size and use this to our full advantage so everyone is an individual that is known and cared for and not a number! We create a safe, happy and caring environment and are seriously committed to our school values which are Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Aspiration. All staff work around a very clear culture where we offer a caring and family feel whilst upholding high standards at all times. No matter what your role in school, students see and speak to everyone on a daily basis. We are due to join an academy trust and are already working closely with them to further develop and build on the already strong provision. We also offer our skills and experience to other family schools and share knowledge throughout the family of schools. The Headteacher and the Senior Team are always present, whether this be on duty during social times or dropping into lessons to check on the school climate. We promote leadership and this is evidenced through our amazing students and wider staff teams. If you are basing your judgements on Ofsted inspections or even hearsay, don't. We are open for any visits and welcome anyone to see our wonderful school in action. The school has seen a significant and exciting change over the past couple of years and this has resulted in recent record-breaking results and positive monitoring visits.
